Draw: Madison met this week at Memorial Union.  It turned out to be a great location for sketching because there were nice views of Lake Mendota and lots of students studying too intensely to notice us drawing them.  Pat did this lovely little watercolor that captures both the intense studying and the lake.  I'll post more drawings from Sunday as soon as I get them/scan them.

Elsie, an artist from Fitchburg, WI, has been drawing with us for the past few weeks.  Here are a few of her sketches from our drawing session at Olbrich Gardens.  I love how she captured the details of the leaves and just added in color on the dramatic red bromeliad.

These are Elsie's sketches from the Capital, where we drew on Feb. 12.  It was a pretty quiet Sunday at the Capital, with many families going on tours of the building.  We were lucky to find an open bench in the Rotunda to sit on while we drew -- most of the other benches were occupied by homeless people who use the space a day shelter during the cold Wisconsin winters.

Here's a sketch I did on the bus on my way to work.  I drew it in pencil on the bus and added the marker and color later. The bumps on the bus were difficult to deal with, but I like the effect of adding marker and colored pencil from memory. It makes it almost cartoon-like.

Draw: Madison met this Sunday at Olbrich Gardens. The weather was so nice out that some of us even ventured outside to sketch for a while.  Inside, in the Conservatory, we enjoyed the sounds of tropical birds, and the bright colors of orchids, bromeliads, and lush foliage. Here are some of Pat's sketches from the day.

Drawings from Henry Vilas Zoo

The weather this Sunday was so lovely, we could have almost drawn outside at the Zoo. But we couldn't deny the attraction of the warm, tropical atmosphere of Primate House and the Rainforest Aviary. Here are two drawings by Pat, a local drawing and painting enthusiast.
