Vilas Park - Lake Wingra

This is a view I painted about 6 weeks ago at Vilas Park looking across the eastern end of Lake Wingra. It was in the 30's but the wind made it much colder and this was a larger pastel painting (15x22) than I usually paint outdoors so it was challenging. Hopefully that ice and snow are gone for good for the season and spring is really here now.  I hope to paint or sketch this same scene again soon when the spring greens pop out.

Goth Conservancy - December 28th

Only a week ago it was 40 degrees and sunny.  I went to Goth Conservancy in Middleton (off Old Sauk Rd.)  The snow was too deep for exploring their 19. 7 acres but I did a couple pastel sketches from a small shelter with picnic table just inside the park.  It looks like a good place for plein air painting in warmer weather.
